A full and thorough understanding of the way in which a normal skin behaves is essential if we are to effectively promote its day to day health and address issues of its dysfunction. The content of our advanced skin science course is referenced specifically to your work in treating the more complex and difficult skin conditions which you will be faced within an advanced aesthetic skin clinic.
On completion, you will have a robust understanding of skin function and a solid basis on which to build further understanding in relation to treatment and the skin conditions which are likely to present themselves in an aesthetic environment.
As a foundation to all other study of the skin, this element of the Level 4 course portfolio is essential for anyone wishing to specialise in remedial skin care and advanced aesthetic skin treatments.

This course is made up of one unit of study:
Unit 2 - Advanced Skin Science
Course Unit Format - 6 Modules:
Module 1 - The Histology & Physiology of the Epidermis
Module 2 - The Natural Barrier Function and Homeostasis of the Skin
Module 3 - The Extra Cellular Matrix of the Dermis
Module 4 - The Appendages, Specialist Histology & Secretions of the Skin.
Module 5 - The Defence Mechanisms of the Skin & Other Functions
Module 6 - The Physiology of the Skin Ageing Process
Course Delivery - Audio-visual e-learning
Course Resources - Digital portfolio and e-learning portal
Course Assessment - Online multiple choice questions, written assessment workbook, portfolio compilation and final theory examination
Duration - This is completely flexible but, on average, you need to allow 24 guided learning hours plus private study time and assessment completion
